Calvin Thompson - Chairman
Calvin Thompson was appointed to the Paulding County Airport Authority on 2001. He has been serving as Chairman since his appointment. Calvin was in the United States Navy where he learned to fly and he has been flying actively for 42 years. Calvin is a double rated pilot with both a fixed and helicopter rating. Calvin is the owner of Thompson Grading, Inc. and has been in business since 1971. Thompson Grading currently employs 50 employees. Thompson Grading also holds a bible study that was started in 1996. He has been married to Cindy Brown Thompson for 43 years. They have 3 daughters, 3 sons-in-law and 6 grandchildren. Calvin is an active member of Picketts Mill Baptist Church. Calvin says he is a very blessed man to have God, his family, his business and to have been a part of the airport since the beginning.
Boyd L. Austin, Jr. - Vice Chairman
Mayor Boyd L. Austin, Jr., is a lifelong resident of the City of Dallas, and a 7th-generation Georgian. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Georgia in 1984, and is a life member of the UGA Alumni Association. Mayor Austin is the longest-serving mayor in the City’s history. First elected in 1995, he is presently serving his fifth term in office. Austin is the dean of the chief elected officials and constitutional officers in Paulding County. He serves as a member of the Board of Directors, the Executive Board, the Legislative Policy Committee, and the Property Development Committee of the Georgia Municipal Association. He is a Trustee and member of Executive Committees of the Georgia Municipal Employee Benefits System, the Georgia Municipal Workman’s Compensation Self Insurance Fund, the Georgia Inter-local Risk Management Agency, and the Georgia Municipal Captive Insurance Company. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Northwest Georgia Regional Commission. He is Vice-Chairman of the Paulding County Airport Authority, Chairman of the Paulding County Industrial Building Authority, and a member of the Paulding County Board of Health. Mayor Austin chaired the Terminal Development Committee for the Paulding Northwest Atlanta Airport, Georgia’s newest general aviation airport. He has served on the governing board of the Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District since 2003, and was elected Vice-Chair in 2010. In 2011, Mayor Austin was elected Chairman of the Metro District which governs water policy for the 15 counties, more than 90 cities, and over 5 million people in the Atlanta metropolitan region. He also chairs the Water District’s legislative affairs committee. Prior to that, he was appointed by Speaker Tom Murphy to serve on the state’s first Statewide Water Study Committee in 2001-2002, and chaired its Inter-Basin Transfer Study Committee. In 2010, Governor Sonny Perdue appointed Mayor Austin to serve as a municipal representative on the Board of Directors of the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority. Mayor Austin is very active in the community. He is an Executive Committee member, Deacon and men’s Sunday School Teacher at the First Baptist Church of Dallas. He is a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, the Sons of Confederate Veterans, the Sons of the American Legion, the Paulding County Historical Society, and the Paulding County Chamber of Commerce. He is a member of Dallas Lodge #182 F&AM and Bartlett Lodge #139 F&AM, and the Yaarab Shrine A.A.O.N.M.S. Mr. Austin is a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, and the Beta-Lambda Alumni Chapter of Kappa Sigma. Mr. Austin is the property manager of Senior Communities Management, Inc., which manages several independent senior communities in the west metro area of Atlanta.

David A. Austin
David A. Austin took office as the Chairman of the Paulding County Board of Commissioners in January of 2009. He is a graduate of Dallas High School and West Georgia College where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Marketing and Management. David spent thirty years in corporate management and sales and as a small business owner prior to being elected as Chairman. David is a member of the Paulding County Chamber of Commerce, Paulding County Hospital Authority, Paulding County Airport Authority, Paulding County Industrial Building Authority, and serves as Vice Chairman of the Cobb Marietta Water Authority, Chairman of the Finance Committee for the Cobb Marietta Water Authority, Vice Chairman of the Northwest Georgia Regional Commission, member of the ACCG-IRMA Board and ACCG Board of Managers. David also serves on the Board of Commissioners of the Georgia Student Finance Commission. David is a sixth-generation resident of Paulding County. He is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Boyd L. Austin, Sr. David and has been married to the former Jane Abney for forty two years, and they reside in the New Hope community. David & Jane have one daughter, Jaydee, who is married to Chris Smith, and two grandchildren, Abney & Austin Smith. David is an active member of Dallas First United Methodist Church.
Mayor Doris Devey sworn in as the 31st Mayor of the City of Hiram on March 13, 2012 and was appointed to the Paulding County Airport Authority, Industrial Business Authority and to the Board of Directors of the Paulding County Chamber after being sworn in. Mayor Devey was born in Pittsburgh, PA and moved to Georgia 30 years ago and has lived in Hiram 10 years. She has been married to her husband Dave for 35 years and they have one son. Both her husband and son work in the field of education. Prior to becoming Mayor she was a Corporate Trainer and Operations Manager for Radio Shack and a cellular company. Her hobbies are horses and taking care of her 6 dogs.
Prior to accepting the Paulding Chamber’s presidency, Carolyn spent 17 years as President and CEO of two fast growing chambers in the Houston (TX) area, developing economic development capital campaigns for various Chambers of Commerce, and most recently served as President of the Barrow County Chamber of Commerce, Winder, GA. Two of Carolyn’s Chamber’s have won national awards presented by the American Association for Chamber Executives for “Chamber of the Year” based on membership growth, membership retention and programs for the Chamber’s member level category. She has a great history of developing successful economic development initiatives, successful campaign fundraising and achieving goals for progressive, community growth. Her experience in organizing and working with community boards and various state and governmental officials is an asset that has provided Carolyn with the ability to build consensus in the business community. In addition, she has served in leadership positions with the YMCA, United Way, Leadership Houston and Leadership Texas. She directed three trade missions to China and also has a background in the hospitality industry. Carolyn serves on the Paulding Industrial Building Authority, Paulding Airport Authority, Kennesaw State University President’s Advisory Board, Paulding Wellstar Community Board, and the Regional Coalition Business Board of Directors. Carolyn returned to her native state of Georgia after raising her family in Texas in 2004. She loves her work with personal satisfaction coming from helping communities achieve their goals and visions. When away from the office, she enjoys travel, history, golf and gardening, as well as being “Mimi” to two wonderful grandchildren. Carolyn is now, in her seventh year serving the Paulding Chamber of Commerce and Paulding County!
Alan Shipp was appointed to the Paulding County Airport Authority in 2009. He serves on the Paulding County Industrial Building Authority as Vice Chairman, the Paulding County Economic Development Board, the Greater West Georgia Joint Development Authority, and the Wellstar Paulding Regional Board. He attended Georgia Tech, Emory University and the University of West Georgia, and holds degrees in chemistry and business. Mr. Shipp is CEO of Ajay-SQM Group, overseeing chemical manufacturing facilities in the US, France and Chile, and is president of the investment-holding firms, Ajay Chemicals Inc. and GMBR, LLC. He and his wife, Jeanne, are members of Dallas First United Methodist Church.
James C. Underwood
James Underwood was appointed Feb 2013 to the Paulding Airport Authority and the Paulding Industrial Building Authority by the Paulding County Board of Commissioners. Mr. Underwood is a graduate of the University of Georgia and was the previous owner of Dallas Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep dealership in Dallas, GA. He and his wife Brenda are members of Dallas First United Methodist Church. Mr. Underwood was a career veteran of the Commercial Vehicle Industry, having served in executive positions at GMC Truck Division, Iveco Trucks and Isuzu Motors, Inc. In 2000 Mr. Underwood became President and COO of General Motors Isuzu Commercial Trucks, a joint venture to consolidate GM and Isuzu medium duty truck sales, service and marketing functions in the US. After retiring in 2008 he became an independent director for Rush Enterprises, Inc, New Braunfels, Texas.
Ellis Astin has resided in Paulding County for more than 45 years and has always loved the people, and what they represent. Ellis lives in South Paulding County, in the New Georgia Community, and resides with his wife, Sherrel. They are members of New Georgia Church and are active in several organizations, including Georgia Classic Rides, which raises money for underprivileged children. His dedication and Christian beliefs have enabled Ellis Astin to grow as an individual and sound, professional businessman. Ellis founded and operated a successful Contracting Company with over 250 employees for more than 34 years, and is well respected in the industry. He has been featured in The Atlanta Business Chronicle for his business insight and efforts. Ellis served on the Paulding County Board of Tax Assessors for more than ten years in which he was awarded the Beacon Award by the Paulding County Board of Commissioners for his extensive service and contribution to the community. Ellis Astin continues to contribute the people of Paulding County by serving as a board member on the Paulding Northwest Atlanta Airport Authority.
